Buenos Aires Hop On - Hop Off Bus - Caminto, La Boca
Mark and Alexa spent a couple of hours in the area after alighting from the Ho On - Hop Off bus. The street is full of eating and craft establishments.
The buildings are primarily made of wood and corrugated iron sheets that were typical of the old conventillos - communal dwellings built by Genoan immigrants in the 19th century. The buildings are often on raised foundations due to frequent flooding in the past.
The area has been characterised by some as a "tourist trap" and it certainly isn't a local, cheap craft market, but the range of artists, restaurants with their dancers certainly make it worthwhile visiting the area and taking in the atmosphere, even if you don't buy anything.
Mark and Alexa found the traders and artists friendly and polite, even when they knew that Mark and Alexa weren't going to buy anything.
