Brigadoon - An Occasional Corner on the Internet
Support Electronics are items that do not provide the required functionality, such as thermometer or computing power, but do provide the environment that allows other pieces of equipment to provide that functionality.

Typical support electronics will include power supplies. For projects on this site, it is a primary objective that all items should be capable of running from a +12V supply such as the domestic power supply on the houseboat. However, this is not always the case for commercial pieces of equipment that are designed using different criteria.

Other items of support equipment include networking equipment to allow multiple pieces of computer equipment to connect together. This can include Ethernet switches and Wi-Fi networks based on Commercial Off The Shelf (COTS) equipment, configured to meet the project's requirements.
Other COTS support electronics include Ethernet-based cameras that can be used for the observation of cloud formations in the sky and for security purposes.
